Turf Disease Programs

We offer treatments for a wide variety of turfgrass diseases.  Turfgrass diseases can potentially infect turf. How the turf is managed, and weather conditions all impact turfgrass disease development.  Disease outbreaks often occur when turfgrasses are not managed properly or due to use of less resistant varities, or poor selection of types of grass for location; or under extreme stress such as, soil and weather conditions.
Snow mold ~ As the snow melts in early spring, symptoms appear as circular areas of straw-colored turf. This disease can kill off large areas of turf, however in many cases only the leaves are damaged. The grass plant can regrow from its crown, rhizomes and stolons.

Necrotic ringspot ~  Caused by the soilborne fungus Ophiosphaerella korrae, is primarily a problem of Kentucky bluegrass, but may also be found on red fescue and annual bluegrass. In our region, necrotic ringspot symptoms usually appear in late spring or early fall, but they may continue into the summer months.  Due to being a root disfunctional disease, mid day  suringing can be bennificial to help with tanspiration, spring and fall applications of fugicide.
Powdery mildew ~ is a foliar disease of Kentucky bluegrass and some fescues. The pathogen (Erysiphe graminis) is a fungus that over-winters in dormant turf, or as specialized survival structures (cleistothecia) in turfgrass leaf litter. Powdery mildew is simple to diagnose. From a distance, affected turf has a white or light gray appearance. Close inspection of affected leaf blades reveals the presence of small (around 1/16 inch in diameter) pustules with masses of white spores that may eventually cover the entire leaf. The spores provide the only significant means of dispersal of the pathogen. Only leaves are infected and no web-like mycelium is produced on the plant surfaces.
We Offer
Leaf spot ~ When the weather becomes humid, and temperatures range between 80 and 90 degrees (F), this disease develops more rapid. Minimize leaf wetness, and follow proper watering practices to help limit the spreading of this disease.
Red thread ~ Only the leaves of your grass plant are affected by this disease. Die back is from the tip down. Wet, overcast conditions favor the spreading of this disease. Turfgrass receiving inadequate nitrogen fertilization are most susceptible. A balanced, regular fertilization program will help defend your lawn against red thread.
Dollar spot ~ This disease is most sever during warm days, cool nights, and humid conditions. Nitrogen deficient turf is most susceptable. Low soil moisture also favors this disease. Water your lawn in the early moring so that the turf has plenty of opportunity to dry off.
